Marriage is an important event in a couple's life. You will be excited, challenged by all the preparations, and planning for the big day.

A couple wishing to get married by law should be aware of these important points about civil marriages:

  • The majority age for male or female to contract marriage is eighteen years and over.
  • Any person in accordance with the Laws of Seychelles can get married.
  • Before the marriage can take place, the banns are published for eleven days prior to the date of marriage.

Any couples wishes to get married in Seychelles may call at the Civil Status office at Independence House or may wish to make arrangement through their Local Travel Agent or Hotel and provide the below documents:

Foreigner and foreigner

  • Complete the Registration form
  • Birth certificate of both parties
  • Divorce certificates if applicable
  • Clear copy of  Passport of both parties
  • Death certificate of previous spouse if widow or widower
  • All Document should be apostille and Authenticated

Seychellois and Seychellois

  • Birth certificate of both parties
  • Seychelles National Identity cards
  • Divorce certificates if applicable
  • Clear copy of  Passport where appropriate
  • Death certificate of previous spouse if widow or widower

Seychellois and foreigner

Seychellois
  • Birth certificate of both parties
  • Seychelles National Identity cards
  • Divorce certificates if applicable
  • Clear copy of  Passport where appropriate
  • Death certificate of previous spouse if widow or widower
Foreigner
  • Original Birth Certificate **(Apostille)- If country is not a member of the apostil convention certificate must be authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs in respective countries.
  • Celibacy Certificate (As Above**)
  • Divorce Certificate where applicable
  • Death certificate of previous spouse if widow or widower
  • Police character certificate- can collect from Seychelles Police Station if been in the country for six months or more
  • Permit of stay in Seychelles
  • One passport size photo

The couple who wish to register their marriage should be present in the Civil Status office If the couple wishes to register their marriage at home, they should inform the Civil Status office at least a week before the marriage takes place.
